Collage Work
I've been studying and exploring collage work for a while but recently have gotten serious about it and have set a tentative date to take a SoulCollage® facilitator class at the end of February. Once I've done that, I plan to do a Collage Exhibit, hopefully using the Burley Hall. The exhibit is intended to showcase what I have done with my collage work and present the collage workshops I've been working toward. I've been studying on this off and on for a couple of years now and still find it to be one of the most powerful tools that I have used for my own self-growth.
Below you will see three of my newest creations. Because I've been working with the SoulCollage® format I've changed my collage size to 5 x 8 to fit with Seena Frost's course.
Even though I will become a SoulCollage® facilitator, Seena Frost's method is only of the 3 styles of collage workshops that interest me.
Seena Frost's method is very involved and revolves around creating suits and doing a lot deep inner work. She was a professional psychotherapist, who held a number of degrees and created this unique method with a great deal of success with her patients.
I have found creating collage cards to be profoundly satisfying and deeply rewarding. I choose to create them in a size I can store in a box. My unique expression often surprises me with it's powerful messages.
Workshop style One is where people make collage for the joy of making collage. They don't read anything into it, they simple enjoy the art form. This style requires no commitment. It is for fun and recreation. This would be the kind of event you might share with your child, a young relative, or even an elderly relative.
Workshop style Two is where people make collage using images that speak to them. These collages are made by choosing pictures and placing them intuitively, very much like Workshop style One, only this time you are encouraged to interpret your expression. As you progress in this form, you begin to add pictures that empower you or remind you of a goal or goals, accomplishments, or an event you want to record. This style is helpful if you are trying to make a life changing shift like smoking cessation, a vision board, or reminders of your successes. It doesn't require very much of a commitment to participate in this workshop.
Workshop style Three is an incredibly deep dive into Seena Frost's four suits, Committee, Community, Companions, & Council. Cards are created to represent parts of yourself such as your inner critic, your inner student, and your shadow (Committee), cards that represent represent people or pets in your life; past and present (Community), cards that represent your vital energies with pictures of animals (Companions), and finally, cards that represent archetypes that you can identify with for self growth (Council). This workshop takes you where you may never have been before. The commitment to this deep dive can be a life long exploration.
Below, you will see three of my newest cards. The first one is self explanatory for the most part. It is an admission of self-imposed pressure. You can tell it is self-imposed because there are no bonds or blind folds. I am free to step away if I choose. In my interpretation I see myself falling into a snowy cold forest if I don't keep self imposed duties up to date. When I meditate on the card, I can remember that I am not afraid of the snowy cold forest. I'm actually quite at home there. I don't have to use so much pressure on myself.
The 2nd card is one of the most personally powerful and deeply moving cards I've ever made. Doing the chakra meditations I came up with the Gorilla for my solar plexus chakra. The gorilla symbolizes many things but protection is the symbol in this picture. The big gorilla (my mother), is protecting the baby gorilla (me). I am so deeply moved by this picture that I know my relationship as a child to my mother is still healing. Oddly, nearly all 7 of my chakra cards involve a mother and baby. (This is an example of the Companion suit from SoulCollage®.)
The 3rd card depicts me and my shadow. Unless the sun is right above us, all things have a shadow. The lower the sun is in the horizon, the longer or taller the shadow. Using this basic thought it becomes easier to embrace my shadow side because I know it isn't stagnant. It is always changing and I'm capable of shedding light on it in ways that cause me the most benefit. (This is an example of the Committee suit from SoulCollage®)
Sincerely, Carmen

I originally pasted my images into the blog and they were unable to be viewed by others. I saved images to my hard drive and uploaded from there. If you still cannot see the images please let me know! Thanks.
