Mastermind Group Redefined

Good morning!


Today I have challenged myself to put our mission and goal into a few simple paragraphs.

The Mastermind Group Mission Statement

We are not defined by our circumstances and we believe in each other unconditionally without criticism, helpful tips, tricks, or advice.

The Mastermind Group Meeting Guidelines

When we hold meetings in person we use a method that allows everyone a chance to speak on their progress and after each speech we applaud their efforts and notice their success.  We divide the minutes in the meeting by the people at the meeting to decide a time limit for each person.  A person can choose to just listen.

Progress can include telling about a great speaker, book, or event that you attended, a goal you set and achieved, a life changing personal epiphany, or a photo of your favorite rose in bloom.  This group is about your growth and understanding, not your sister, or your hated neighbor.  If however, you have created a new understanding with the hated neighbor, that is progress worth reporting about yourself.

The Mastermind Blog

All of you are invited to write blog posts.  At this time you will have to send them to me to be posted.  If you want to remain anonymous, please make that clear in the first lines of your message to me.  If you want to choose a screen name, please make it clear in the first lines of your message.  There is no requirement to always use the same screen name.  Your reader always feels closer to a Name rather than Anonymous.  Always make sure that your post is about your experience being changed for the better.  We can discuss editing (spelling, punctuation ETC) via the message you send me.  You can use the Contact Carmen feature on the blog page.  I am also willing to type your post myself.

Being Overwhelmed

Overwhelmed: One definition as a verb: "Bury or drown beneath a huge mass." I always perceived the word to mean, "I give up because there is too much to do."   I have always been buried beneath much more than one person could accomplish but I didn't drown.  I didn't give up. Human Rights

Human Rights  In 1906 Upton Sinclair published a book called The Jungle.   Upton Sinclair was called a muckraker because he went into the depths of Chicago and wrote about the unspeakable things that were being done to immigrants and the poor.  I suggest that you read this book or at least read a synopsis of it. Jacob Riis photographed slum life and wrote an essay called How the Other Half Lives.  Yep, it's an old essay.  If you think things are bad today, take a look at this piece.  It is another reason that the US strives to have regulations and services to lift people beyond this sort of poverty.   Ida Wells, a black journalist, documented lynching in America.  Nice to know that you could take a black person out and hang them if you had a good reason, or not. Ida Tarbell was incensed after reading an article that said women were not intelligent because there were only 300 patents introduced by women.  She traveled to the US paten...
