The Importance of Positive Affirmations
I look in the mirror and I am unhappy with the way I look. I look at my stomach and I am unhappy with the way it is. I look at my house and I am unhappy with the arrangement. I look at the yard and am seeing that it needs to be mowed and the belt is broken on my lawn mower. It will take about 10-16 hours to mow everything with the push mower. This thought makes me unhappy. The leaking roof in the summer kitchen makes me unhappy. I look at the piles of logs that have been gifted to me and am seeing my trail blocked and a lot of work which makes me unhappy. I see my broken motorcycle and I am disappointed in myself.
Thirty minutes of noticing all of these things can cause me to feel unhappy, especially if I know that people will see my mess and say judgmental things or question my ability to do the jobs in the future.
It takes less than thirty minutes to turn all of that around and see what I have been blessed with. I start by visualizing anybody who has questioned my ability to handle this in the future. I look them straight in the eye and say, "I am blessed and my future will be blessed. What you see as a lot of work, I see as a wealth of possibilities." I will think but will not say aloud, "You are seeing this from your point of view with your personal limitations. Your limitations are not my limitations."
Next I turn to myself and remind myself that I have created the world around me. I can choose how I perceive another persons input. So far the concern expressed about my abilities to do something is a reflection of their ability and/or choice to do something. Nobody is more qualified to live my life than I am.
Most of my guests now point out how beautiful my place is and how much they can see that I have accomplished. I acknowledge how much my sister has helped me, supplying me with a steady flow of love and support which increases my motivation. I also acknowledge that I have been learning to work smarter rather than harder.
I do this exercise on purpose as needed. I look in the mirror and I am happy that I have all of my appendages and they work for me. I am pleased with my extraordinary strength. I am happy that my stomach reflects the quantity of suppressed creativity in my body. It means that I am going to birth a plethora of profitable ideas and behaviors. I look at my house and allow every positive and workable change to fill my emotions with gratitude. I look at my mowable areas and I am grateful that the lawn mower belt has arrived and that I will soon have my lawn mower working again. I express gratitude for YouTube and all of the wonderful people who have posted videos on how to install my lawn mower belt. I bless all of the hawkweed before it becomes humus for the future of my soil. Mowing my yard is a really great time to listen to a self-help book via Audible and my headphones. I look at the summer kitchen roof and I am filled with gratitude for the sheeting and new shingles. The new roof provides much motivation for the future improvements. I look at the piles of logs and I see that I have another years worth of firewood just for the cutting of it. There are also a few gems in the pile that I can set aside for my sawmill. Oops...oh yeah the mill isn't set up, but I see a slab where my mill will set until I have a building set up for it. I see the trees that must be cut down before setting the mill up. I see the slab that needs to be cleared off. I am grateful that I can see the solutions and that these things are happening in the perfect time for me. I look around me and appreciate how much the grapes have grown into a shelter for the chickens in the heat of the summer. I bless my fence post sprinklers and the tripod sprinkler and my hoses. As I use my hoses, I am blessed with understanding the difference between a hose of high quality and a useful hose. I laugh about this because I have a high quality hose that is bear to move because it is stiff and heavy. I bless the new neighbors because they have made it possible for me to pay more attention to my property and to pay a long owed debt to my dear friends. They also put in a fantastic fence with a lovely garden and new fruit trees. When I look at the labor they have accomplished I feel a great deal of satisfaction. They are going to be great neighbors! My motorcycle is being repaired by a motorcycle repairman who enjoys working on old motorcycles, Honda Rebels most of all. I visualize my ride home on a sunny day. Maybe I will ride a little longer. I'm very happy.
